A Moving Post

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped us move: Thanks! Pretty much everything is unpacked and put away properly, except for the garage and storage room. We love our new place and look forward to having you guys visit soon!

Holiday Plans

A few things I'm curious about:

1. What is everyone's plan for Thanksgiving? How about Christmas? New Years? Julie and I will be taking Stanley to Boise for Christmas, but will spend Thanksgiving in town and probably New Years, too.

2. What is going to be the setup for Christmas gifts? Are we going to do the usual random selection thing? Maybe this year we can all just pool our resources and choose one family member to give big huge gift to. Then the next year we can choose another person. Maybe I can get the first year's gift. Then if it doesn't seem like a good idea, we can go back to the old way. Just an idea. You just have to try new things in this life, you know?

3. When are we all planning to meet next? That makes it sound like a city council meeting...When are we going to get together next as a family? Maybe next Sunday (November 6)?

I guess that's it. I feel bad, Mom and Pop--Julie and I didn't wish either of you a happy birthday! Happy Birthday!

Also, Happy Birthday, Shannon! Sorry for not remembering that, either. To think that the blog was born out of the idea that if we had a place where birthdays were listed, it would be really easy to remember everyone's birthday! Now if each day when there is a birthday I could get a reminder to go to the blog and find out whose birthday it is...yeah, so I just need to remember better.

A bloggin' fool

I've been blogging like a mad woman lately. It's much easier than scrapbooking with preferable results for me. So, perhaps I'll donate all my scrapbooking stuff to those who actually do it (Mom, Shannon, Dawn, Julie, Kiyomi...) and just keep on bloggin. So, check out my blog for pics of our Arches trip, carving pumpkins, etc.

The TV is LOCKED!

In your esteemed opinions, what is the best part about being the son or daughter of an Engineer (besides the great train rides, of course)?

My vote is the locked TV. Before V-chips (do they have those anymore?), blocked channels, or any other prevention, we got an actual physical lock. I don't remember what precipitated the installation of the device, but I do remember the hammering, drilling, and sawing out in the garage as the kids tried to pass blame to one another for making Dad mad. It must have been slightly satisfying for the parents to see lazy kids pushing the power button in vain. Parents 1, Kids 0.

Looking back, I think Dad was concerned about our collective inability to break-and-enter, so he devised a splendid place to practice the lock-picking skills we had learned from MacGyver and the sneaking into Mom's and Dad's room to find the hidden key we had learned from Link. Thank goodness we had TV to teach us that.

Birthdays

We need to figure out where to put a list of all the birthdays. I have major trouble remembering the many birthdays of non-original family members. That's only because I don't love them as much, and I really want them to think that I do. But I need a big list of birthdays to help me do this.

Wait a second. Who has access to this blog? Nevermind about that stuff. I think everyone is equally great!

Usually for the first weblog post, you're supposed to make a big speech about why the blog exists, and how you want it to accomplish certain things. Well, I'm not going to do that. The Insegredient Ignats! blog exists, and that's all that matters!
