Too bad...

... Alan and Shannon named their girl Alyssa. We kind of liked Melissa, but that would drive Mom crazy. 

Alyssa is home

Alyssa and Shannon came home this evening. Alyssa is still on oxygen (though it is near normal atmospheric levels) and will probably be so for about a week. Otherwise, she's eating, sleeping, and pooping well, just as a baby should. Pictures will be forthcoming. We reiterate our gratitude for prayers, well-wishes, and especially the time and effort given by several noble souls to help the girls and their dad while Mommy was unavailable.

He's too modest to post it himself, so I'm taking the initiative. Dad did an interview on KCPW about the energy industry's (and specifically PacifiCorp's) position on climate change. It's a good ten minute interview and Dad comes across as the knowledgeable and level-headed fellow he is. The link takes you to the audio recording of the interview.

It's Alyssa!

Alyssa (Mei?), working on that whole breathing thing in the NICU. 

Alyssa was born to Alan and Shannon on March 1st at 9:22 PM. She was 20 days premature -- but still weighed 6 lbs 7 oz -- and has had difficulty breathing on her own. She's currently in the NICU at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, and will likely be there for two weeks or more. Shannon will be discharged from Orem Community Hospital on March 3rd and will finish recuperating at home. Alan and Shannon are deeply grateful for everyone's prayers and offers of help.

We're not completely settled on her middle name yet, though 'Mei' is still the frontrunner. If Derek and Kiyomi know of any reasons we should not give her that name, now is the time to let us know.

Update (March 3): Forget 'Mei'. We decided on the spot to give her the middle name 'Linette' (same pronunciation as Lynette), which is a combination of her grandmothers' names, Linda and Annette.

Holly Elaine

Dawn looks way too good to have just had a baby! 

Welcome Baby Holly Elaine!

Dawn, Rob and Robyn welcomed daughter and sister Holly Elaine into their little family this morning, March 1, 2006, at 6:37 a.m. Holly weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 20 inches long at birth. She has some dark hair but it's lighter than Robyn's hair was when she was born. Dawn and Holly are doing well. Holly, around five minutes after birth, wasn't as alert as she should be, but after Rob and Dawn spent some time rubbing her and after she cleared her lungs and airways more, she perked up nicely.
